Our brand synonym of our inspirer's name and founder of the Agricultural Cooperative Movement, Alexandros Mpaltatzis.
Man of action and hard work, obstinate and diligent, full of innovative and pioneering ideas, far ahead of his time and with a wide trading spirit, he completely understands the labor of tobacco producers and the agricultural community in general. As a founding member of PASEGES and through his involvement in politics, as a Member of Parliament and Minister of Agriculture during the time of the late Georgios Papandreou, he envisioned a modern cooperative movement in the service of Greek agriculture
He founded many cooperative organizations such as SEKΕ, SPE, ELAIOURGIKI, ASE, SPEKA, in Thrace and Xanthi: RODOPI, SEVATH, SEKAP, SEPEK, that occupy hundreds of employees each one. He also conceived and established the SEKΕ Cooperative Scholarships from 1949 to 1965, through which more than 400 children of farmers were able to study at the universities of Athens and Thessaloniki.
Recognizing his tremendous contribution, the Municipality of Xanthi awarded him the title of Honorary Citizen, and the Prefecture of Xanthi declared him as a luminous personality of the 20th century.In addition, associations and museums have been established in the wider region of Xanthi in his name.Nowadays, the non-profit organization "Alexandros Mpaltatzis" is founded by the 'Cooperative Holding and Investment Company - SEKE S.A.' and the 'Cooperative Union of Tobacco Producers of Greece - SEKE S.A.' in honor of this great man and benefactor of the Xanthi region, particularly the agricultural community.
